George ¨Pecas¨ Burgin III

July 2, 1977 - May 21, 2019

George passed away at the age of 41. He was born in St. Louis Missouri to the late George Burgin Jr. and Carole Ann Lucy.

George was an explorer and inquisitive to a fault. As a kid, he used his skateboard as a means to explore St.Louis.  He met so many great friends that way.  He built so many fond memories with his brother as well using their skateboards as a way to escape from the city.  He loved ALL people and this core foundation came from his mother, grandmother, brother, and the St. Margaret of Scotland parish. This is why he has so many great friends from different backgrounds.

While on “vacation”, George dedicated his life to educating himself first and then sharing that knowledge with the younger generation in hopes of breaking the cycle of mass incarceration and police brutality.  He taught 12th grade math and partnered with professors to start college programs for prisoners.  He started a students against mass incarceration study group.  He also worked with La Raza and Latinos for Tomorrow through dedicated professors, such as Sonia Lee, who was the assistant professor at Washington University.  George taught GED prepatory classes, helping more than 500 prison inmates earn their GED.

He was released from 23 years of  incarceration on 10-23-2018.  Coming home, he was reunited with his strong, supportive, and loving friends. His ultimate philosophy upon his release was to learn "one skateboard trick at a time" and to pace himself to a more positive life.  Using that philosophy, he came home as a very focused, mature man with goals and direction.  Within a short time, George had his own place, a good job, a couple of vehicles, and a plan to continue to grow and educate himself.

He was active in his Honduran roots.  He loved his family fiercely and would often go visit his grandmother´s grave for personal healing.  His last celebrated event was Cinco de Mayo, where he was able to meet up with many of his friends to catch up and enjoy the holiday.

George spent his time as a personal trainer and a laborer.

He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Until we meet again.

He is survived by his older brother.
