Richard L. Hewlett

1933 - 2016


Richard was the dear son of the late Louis and Elizabeth Hewlett.  Dear Dad of Louise (Charlie) Maher, Rebecca "Becky" Eischen and Wilma Roland and the late Danalynn Hewlett.  Our dear grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many.

Richard was a devoted Christian and prayer warrior for all of his friends and family. He was a loving, giving, kindhearted, and generous person.  He never said an unkind word about anyone.  He loved gardening and most of all he loved his girls!

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to ministry of choice.

Services:  Visitation will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016 4pm - 8 pm; Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10 am

Velia D. Kanaday

1923 – 2016


Velia D. Kanaday nee Hedrick, 92, of Bismarck passed away on Monday, 22 February 2016 and was born 17 June 1923 in St. Louis to the late Ike and Goldie A. Hedrick. Mother of the late daughter Patricia Ann (31 January 1947 - 23 March 1948). She was the last surviving of eight siblings: Lawrence H., Lloyd B., Paul J., Vivian Marie Hedrick-Manning, David Lee, Donald W., and Vernon. Wife of the late Seldon P. Kanaday. Survived by step-daughter, Lahoma J. Kanaday Creed; son-in-law, Magnus Creed; her beloved cat, Adinga; sister-in law Lora Kennedy; several nieces and nephews; friends; and the biological mother of Lahoma Kanaday Creed, Minister Brenda E. Straub (Weinhold) to whom she was a good friend.


Velia joined Bismarck United Methodist Church on 24 April 1936 and remained a member for all of her life. After attending beauty school, she worked as a beautician in St. Louis before getting an associate’s degree and working as an accountant for the U.S. Army. She retired from the Army in 1984. She resided in Longwood, Florida from 1984 to 1995 before returning to Bismarck to be near her siblings after the death of her husband in 1994. After her return to Missouri, Velia did accounting for her church and was an Election Poll worker for approximately 15 years. She enjoyed landscaping, gardening, and spending time with her cat and friends.


Memorial service will be held at Bismarck United Methodist Church in the near future.

                                                                                                         Vernon P. Brennan



Vernon (Ernie) Brennan, 91, passed away on Wednesday, February 24, 2016. He was born on August 29, 1924. Beloved husband to Lucille (Miller) Brennan. Dear father of Rita (Rich), Alan, Brian (Ellen), Diane; cherished grandfather of Gary Post (Kim), Casey (Joe), Kyle, Colin, Lauren, Stacey, Kevin and Patrick.

Dearest Great grandfather of Lainey and Brynn Post.

Preceded in death by his twin brother Milton (Margie), Joseph (Norma), Vincent, Alphonse (Erma), Anthony “Bud” (Hazel), Frances “Duke” (Beulah)

Dearest Ernie was loved by many friends, nieces and nephews.

Ernie was always quick with a smile and a helping hand. He never turned away a friend or a stranger in need. He served in the US Army. He was a lifelong member of South Broadway Athletic Club. He retired from Kroger Bakery after 43 years.

Angeline V. Szolga

Angeline V. Szolga, 90, of Lonedell died Feb. 1, 2016, at his home. Mrs. Szolga was retired from Sigma Chemical Co. She enjoyed her family, sitting on her porch swing and watching her grandchildren play. Born Sept. 2, 1925, in St. Louis, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Stella (Turnbough) Ross.

She is survived by two children: Linda Crawford of Lonedell and Larry Szolga of St. Louis; five grandchildren: Sheryl Potter of Arnold; Kenny Ecker of St. Louis, Charles Ecker of St. Louis, Robbie Crawford of Lonedell and Angie DeLane of Lonedell; 10 great-grandchildren: Randy Puff of St. Louis, Mackenzie Cromer of Arnold, Jorden, Ariel, Isabel and Victoria Ecker, all of St. Louis, and Liberty, Abby, Wyatt and Aubree DeLane, all of Lonedell.

She was preceded in death by a child: Pat Ecker; and three siblings: Charles Ross Jr., Lena Ross and Alice Ross.

Carol M. Saunchegrow

 Carol Madelene Saunchegrow was born on Menard Street in St. Louis, the 7th child of the late Freddie Lee and Dimple Lorene Saunchegrow.  She is preceded in death by sister's, Virginia Goede, Gloria Binder, Dorothy (Jean) Ussrey and Janet Hassler and by brothers Vernon and Donald Saunchegrow.  Carol leaves behind her sister's Helen Hahler, Maureen Saunchegrow and Donna Taylor; along with numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Carol attended McKinley High School, was a member of the Goldbugs and the Missouri Genealogy Society.  She worked for many years at Pet Milk Company and most recently for the City of St. Louis. Carol resided in Affton at the time of her death.

Carol was fun-loving, had a sense of humor and was known for her quick come backs.  She had an unquenchable sense of adventure and loved to travel.  It was not uncommon for her to call one or more of her sisters, friends or nieces and say, "let's go to Nes York , or Germany, or Canada or England.  She loved to see the world.

Although health issues affected her independence in more recent years, she enjoyed getting out and about with her sisters, nieces and nephews and companion Dick Baker.

Carol was loved by many and we will miss her dearly.  The family is especially thankful to her nephew Mark Hassler for the care and companionship he provided by being her wheels and friend.

Thelma L. McNail

Thelma Louise (Dement) McNail, 81, of Pevely died Jan. 28, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in CrystalCity.

Mrs. McNail was a homemaker. Born Jan. 31, 1934, in Redford, she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Leona (Casey) Dement. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Lee Roy McNail.

She is survived by five daughters: Connie (Ross) Stretch of Dittmer, Betty Wosman of Pevely, Paula Caby of Arnold, Deborah McNail of Pevely and Jacqueline (Mark) Raspberry of St. Peters; a brother: Danny (Brenda) Dement of Steelville; three sisters: Velma (Norman) Bowles of Potosi, Norma (Bob) Buhler of Fredericktown and Rose (Bob) Forshee of Mountain Home, Ark.; 13 grandchildren: Kerwin Stretch of Nuremberg, Germany; Kristy Stretch of Dittmer; Kevin Finn of Arnold; Rheannon (Wes) Melber of Pevely; Jonathan Borchelt of Minot, N.D.; Aundreya Ottens of Arnold; Robert (Suzanne) Caby of Crystal City; Richard (Amanda) Caby of Pevely; Steven (Christine) Caby of Orlando, Fla.; Alishea (Caleb) Elifrits of Festus; Kyle McNail of St. Peters; John (Christi) McNail of Columbia; and Matthew Raspberry of Shiloh, Ill.; and 12 great-grandchildren: Ashtin Vessels of Cape Girardeau; Hannah Robinson of Pevely;  Ricky Potter of Pevely; Isabelle and Emerson Caby of Crystal City; Jonathan, Aiden and Adelaide of Pevely; Dexter and Felix Caby of Orlando, Fla.; and Avery and Jacob Elifrits of Festus.

She was preceded in death by a son: Mark McNail; five brothers: Elmo Dement, Glenwood Dement, Stanley Dement, Harold Dement and Wayne Dement; a sister: Lucille Goodman; and two sons-in-law: William Wosman and Bruce Caby.

Visitation is scheduled for 10 a.m. and a funeral service at noon Monday, Feb. 1, at Sandy Baptist Church, 9331 Sandy Church Road, east of Hillsboro, officiated by Pastor Cody Alley and Pastor David Wells. Burial will be in Sandy Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Sandy Cemetery or to the Alzheimer’s Association.

 Richard Frank Holtmeyer

1934 - 2016




Richard Frank Holtmeyer died January 25, 2016. He died at St. John's Hospital at the age of 81. Born February 28, 1934, in St. Elizabeth Missouri, to the late Theodore and Catherine (Franken) Holtmeyer. He married Norma Jean Hake on May 14, 1960 They were blessed with  55 years of marriage. He is the dear father of Douglas Holtmeyer and Rhonda Anderson, both of St. Louis. Dear grandfather of Megan, Jacob, Elexis Holtmeyer, Brenden Anderson and Aaron Byington and great grandfather of Nathan Romero Holtmeyer. Dear brother of Theodore "T.J." Holtmeyer of Gravois Mills, Missouri, Annbelle Schutzler and Henrietta Schaffer of Jefferson City, Missouri and the late Frederick, Winfred and Edward Holtmeyer of Kansas City,Missouri and Delores Darveaux of Omaha, NE. 


He worked at Cupples Manufacturing in Overland, Missouri and retired after 37 years. He served in  the U.S. Army January 7th, 1955 to December 7th, 1957.

Interests-Richard and Norma Jean had a country place in Labadie, MO for over 40 years. They spent every weekend there planting their garden, canning, and maintaining the property. He loved any activity that kept him busy in the outdoors.  They recently sold their country place but Richard continued his outdoor activities, including a small garden at their home in Maryland Heights.  He also loved spending time with his children, grandchilred and a new great grandchild.  He deeply loved them all and made that affection known to all.  Richard was a deeply religious man and practiced his Catholic faith at All Souls Catholic Church in Overland and most recently at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Maryland Heights.

 Services:  Visitation will be held Friday, January 29, 2016 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Mass at Holy Spirit Parish 3130 Parkwood Lane, Maryland Heights, MO 63043, Father Bockskopf officiating. Interment Private

Udie Clifford Huson


Udie Clifford Huson was born November 8, 1931 in Naylor, Missouri to the late Vern (nee Turner) and Udie W. Huson. He went home to be with the Lord January 12, 2016 at the age of 84.  The Beloved husband of the late Magdalene "Lucky" Huson. Dear father of Randy (Deborah) Huson and the late James, Barbara, Cliff Jr., and Arvil Huson. Dear grandfather; great-grandfather; uncle;  cousin and friend. Mr. Huson retired in 1995 from Publication Printing. He will be greatly missed.

Christian M. Mattingly




Christian “Jesus”, 18, was called home on the evening of January 9, 2016 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident. He was born on April 28, 1997 in St. Louis, the beloved son of Christina “Chrissy” Mattingly. (Biological Father, John) He attended Carnahan High School where he was a teammate of the Carnahan Football Team and he was on the Honor Roll every semester. He graduated Carnahan High School on May 14, 2015. He was currently enrolled at Forest Park Community College where he intended to pursue his career in the automotive field following his “Pawpaw’s” footsteps.

Christian attended Young Life of St. Louis where he participated in youth group activities and volunteered his time to help other children of the community. Christian enjoyed being with his friends and family and playing his video games.

Christian “Jesus” is survived by his Mother Christina “Chrissy” Mattingly and his brother Justin Mattingly. (Biological Father and Half Siblings) He also leaves his Maternal Grandmother “Mawmaw” Betty Mattingly of St. Louis and is preceded in death by his maternal Grandfather “Pawpaw” Danny Mattingly. He is also survived by his Uncle Danny Mattingly, Jr. (Wife, Angela Mattingly) of Kentucky (Danny, Michael and Kayla) his Uncle David Mattingly of St. Louis and by many Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Christian “Jesus” is also survived by his closest, dearest friends Dominic, Nicholas, Montell, Laurent, Curtis, Darius, Deandre, Xavier and is also preceded in death of his good friend Irijah S. Johnson.

Funeral Arrangements are being handled by the McLaughlin Funeral Home located at 2301 Lafayette Ave., St. Louis, MO 63104. Visitation will be Thursday, January 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Services immediately following at 1:30 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family is asking for donations to help pay funeral expenses for Christian.

Dave J. Mullane


Born August 9, 1938 in St. Louis, asleep in Jesus, October 13, 2015 at the age of 77.  Dave was the beloved son of the late  Richard and Virginia (Eckert) Mullane. Dear brother of Vera Steinkoetter, Deanna (Ron) Cecil, Lillian Wright, Mary (Larry) Summers and Esther (James) Little, and the late Richard, Danny, Bill, Joann, Delia, Virginia and Sandy Mullane; our dear nephew; uncle; great-uncle; cousin and friend.

Dave will be fondly remembered by playing Santa and the Easter Bunny at many children's events.  He also enjoyed volunteering and working for many charities. He was a Central High School and SIU Carbondale alumnus. He will be greatly missed by many.

Michael B. Tallent, Sr.

Charleen "Dolly" Roark

Dragutin "Karl" Drakulic



Drakulic, Dragutin ,” Karl “ was born on April 4, 1916 in Bela Krajina, a region in southern Slovenia. He was one of nine children. He passed away peacefully on June 11, 2015, at the young spirited age of 99 and sharp as a tack. An avid gardener loved flowers and birds.  Preceded in death by his wonderful wife of 65 years, Elizabeth Drakulic, who passed away last year.  Dragutin “ Karl “ and his wife immigrated to America in October 1950 aboard the General Taylor and settled in St. Louis. Karl was a long-time employee of Western Electric in St. Louis, retiring in 1976. He was a devoted member of the Holy Trinity Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church. Dear Kum to Dusan Manjencich (Zora) and Milan Manjencich and three adopted grandchildren, Danijela, Jasna and Obren Manjencich.  Dragutin is also survived by cousins, nephews and nieces both here in the US, Slovenia and Canada.

Michael Lane Billingsley

Michael Lane Billingsley, died suddenly June 4, 2015, at the age of 24. Dearest son of Dana Bogacki Billingsley (dec'd)and Jack Lane, stepson of Myke Billingsley. Fond brother of Joseph and Stephen Billingsley; grandson of George And Marilyn Bogacki and Jack and Kate Lane; loving nephew of Bob Bogacki, Thomas (Whitney) Lane and Mamie Lane; cousin to Luca, Ryder and Jack Lane.

Michael was young but his life was filled with experience.  He was a lover or the outdoors and adventure.  He was rarely seen without his guitar and music accompanied him on his extensive travels.  He had a caring family at home, a community of friends across the country and he engendered love in those who knew him.  Michael was a gentle, generous, talented young man and he will be deeply missed by all who loved him.

A Memorial Gathering will be held Friday, June 12, 2015 from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McLaughlin Funeral Home, 2301 Lafayette Ave. St. Louis, MO 63104

Betty Marie Koehler


(nee Butler) April 24, 2015. Betty Marie, fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Catholic Church.

Dear daughter of the late Emma Mae and Joseph B. Butler; beloved wife of 62 years to the late Leo A. Koehler; loving mother of Susan (James) Purtell; dearest grandmother to Andrew Purtell;  dear sister of the late Cletis (Rosita) Butler, the late Maudeline (John) Halback, the late Curtis (Marie) Butler; dear sister-in-law, aunt, great-aunt, cousin and friend.

She was an active member for many years to the Christian Mothers' Society and Our Ladies Sodality at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She baked many cakes for bake sales, school picnics and participated in the St. Patrick's Casserole Program at IHM Catholic Church.
