1985 - 2016

Joey went home to be with the Lord August 8, 2016.  The beloved husband of Luz (nee Del Rio) Miniex; Dear father of Joseph "JoJo" Miniex, Jr. and Aiden Miniex; Loving son of Doug "Eddie" and Tonya (nee Quigley) Miniex; Dear brother of Dougie (Angie) Miniex and Stephany Miniex;  Dear Grandson of Jim Quigley and the late Frieda Skinner and Ed and Marie Miniex.  Our dear nephew, uncle, cousin and friend to many.

Joey loved spending all his time with his wife and kids, and fishing with his boys. He loved singing, especially to his dear mother and making others happy. He will be greatly missed.

Jacqueline "Jackie" M. Swinea

1937 - 2016



Jacqueline Marie Swinea, 78, of St. Charles, MO, died Tuesday, July 6, 2016. . She was born November 1, 1937, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of the late Corbett and Velma Hall.

On December 10, 1960 she was united in marriage to Willie J. Swinea. Together they spent 55 years devoted to each other and their children. Jackie loved to have her family with her and devoted her life to their happiness.

She is survived by her husband Willie J Swinea; two children, Teresa (Mark) Steiner and Bill (Doddie) Swinea; four grandchildren, Andrea Swinea, Jen (Taylor) Schulz, Zachary (Stephanie) Swinea, and Tyler Taylor. She was the great grandmother of two and was anxiously awaiting the birth of her third great grandchild. She is also survived by her sister Shirley (Gene) Jones and brother Harold (Judy) Hall.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Corbett and Velma Hall; sisters, Pat, Bonnie, Betty, and Ella and her brothers Robert and Corbett.

Joseph Justice born January 3, 1964 went home to be with the Lord, July 1, 2016. He was the beloved son of the late Lawrence and Wanda (nee Hicks) Justice.  Dear father of the late Shaun Justice and dear stepfather of Crystal Reeves; loving grandfather of Cody Reeves.  Dear brother of Brenda Prinkey, Linda Cortipisie, John Justice, Barbara James, Marie Uphoff and the late Delores Justice, Ida Justice and Lawrence Justice.  Our dear broher-in-law, uncle, great uncle and friend to many.

Myrtle Rae Pickering

1947 -  2016

Myrtle Rae Pickering went home to be with the Lord June 20, 2016. She was the beloved wife of William Paul Pickering for 51 years.  She was born in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Paul and Joan (nee Miller) Livingston.  Dear Mother to William "Stacy" (Patty) Pickering, Terri Lynn Pickering and Karen Ann Lloyd; dear Grandmother of Brittany Larissa (Kevin) Werntz, Erika Angelina Lloyd, William Anthony Benfield, Jessica Lynn (Tyler) Varland and Daniel Corey Benfield; Great-Grandmother to Braxton Robert Varland, Baylee Ann Varland, Daniel Corey Benfield, Jr. and Easton Lee Werntz.

Myrtle enjoyed bowling at Sunset Lanes with her husband and friends for many years. She was a devoted and loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. She will be greatly misssed by all who knew her.

William W. Hale, Jr.


William Wayne Hale, Jr was born on July 16, 1942 to Dora Nelson Hale and William Wayne Hale, Sr.  He was embraced in the arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 5, 2016.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet O’Bryan Hale and his parents.  He is survived by his daughters, Susan Hale-Glass and Rebecca Hale.  His sister, Elizabeth Hale McClain, his grandchildren, Joshua Glass and Kelsey Glass-Dominguez.  His brothers in law, sister in law, nieces and nephews, many cousins, and other family and friends.

Wayne, as he was known by family and friends, graduated from McKinley High School in St Louis MO, he attended the University of Missouri at Columbia, Berean School of the Bible and graduated from Harris Stowe State.  He served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps for nine  years, served as a St Louis County Police Officer, as a Pastor and Evangelist and finally as a teacher in the Houston TX Public Schools.  This is a soul who truly had a servant's heart.

Cheri C. Brumit (nee) Gobble

Born March 1, 1948

Homecoming June 5, 2016

Cheri C. Brumit, left this world peacefully Sunday, June 5, 2016 with family and friends by her side after a long battle with cancer.

She was born on March 1, 1948, in the city of St. Louis MO. at Bethesda Hospital. She was the daughter of the late, Lydia Rebecca (LeMond) Kauffeld, and Delmus Gerald Gobble.

She married Edward Theodore “Ted” Brumit on May 26, 1972. He passed away on May 29, 2001.

Cheri loved being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She had a green thumb and loved to work in the yard. She was a member of Community Christ Fellowship Church of Ferguson. She enjoyed camping, star gazing, bird watching, road trips, going antiquing and junk shopping, an avid reader, reading to her grandchildren, playing games, gardening, tending to her many house plants making them feel loved also.

Cheri worked as a secretary for Logos School and The Judivine Center. She retired from Mallinckrodt/Tyco as a customer service representative in 2009.

She is survived by six children, Cindy (Wayne) Menke of Union MO; Michelle (Ted) DeMaria of Overland MO; Kim (Daniel) Govero of Advance MO; Steve (Georgia) Brumit of Hazelwood MO; Debi (Andy) Brumit of Granite City IL; and Julie (Garret) Brumit of Riverview MO. 

Thirteen grandchildren, Amanda Nagel, Cory (Ashley) Menke, Theodore Menke, Danielle (Marcus) English, Staci Licavoli, Zac (Tanya) Chandler, Alexis (Kyle) Chandler, Benjamin (Catarina) Menke, , Nicholas Niebrzydoski, Haley Wilson, Tori (TJ) Gintz, Bobby Daniel Brown, and Tristan DeMaria.

Two great grandchildren, Ryu & Ivory.

Six siblings, Lita Francis, Butch (Elizabeth) Gobble, Joy Jackson, Kevin (Lisa) Gobble, Mark (Mary) Gebhart, Brett Gobble, and dear friend Lynda Sharpe along with lots more family and many, many friends.

Cheri loved and was loved by all, she will be dearly missed.

Cheri truly believed in this quote from Mother Teresa and we have each heard her tell us, “Well Be Kind Anyway”

 In loving memory of Sue Lorena Robinson born on January 25, 1925 and laid to rest May 7, 2016.  Sue was preceded in death by her son Daniel Metcalf and daughter Betty Sue Metcalf and grandson Michael Myers along with several siblings.  She is survived by one son Billy Joe Robinson and daughter-in-law Mary Beth Robinson; granddaughters Robin Rogers and Leah Robinson; great granddaughter Lyla Malone.  She is also survived by two brothers Harold Gibson and Amos Gibson and one sister Shirley Bennett.  She goes before us leaving a legacy and a full life with memories  surrounding us.

Manfred " Manny " Weiss

1956 - 2016


Manfred Weiss, 59, of St. Louis, Missouri passed away April 23, 2016. He was a career employee of US Steel in Granite City, Illinois. Manny's love of animals and his friends was only surpassed by the love for his family. Manny was the beloved partner of Oliver Gramlich for over 25 years; the loving son of Karl and Sonja (Riedel) Weiss, cherished brother of Christian, Walter (Linda), and Heidi (Dan) Frazier; dear uncle of Eric, Matthew, Kimberly, Marcus, Emily, Garrett, Austin, Alyssa, and great-uncle to Jack and Gavin. Manny was also very special to Beverly Gramlich and Selma Hoefler, as well as a friend to many.

 Bertha  Louise Gilpin crossed over at the age of  88, she was born, September 27, 1927 and passed away March 11, 2016. She left behind 8 loving children an one deceased son; 14 loving grand children and 19 loving great grand children. Mary (sue) Davis, daughter Brandi and husband Mike Stenberg. Sherry (Kay) Shepherd, sons Chris Milburn , Richard  Shepherd and a daughter Gabby Gilpin. Glenda and her husband Don;  their daughters, Jennifer Parke, Helen (Mickey) and her husband Kenny Durkee, daughter, Maegan Finch; Jimmy Lynn and his wife, Tina Gilpin; daughters,  Jamie, Kindra ,and Zoey. James Richard and his wife Gina Gilpin, their son Nicholas Gilpin;  Zelma (Deronda) Gilpin her daughters, Hope (Nikki) Gilpin Christina Parker and Vicki Moody. Laura and husband James Travis;  daughter, Jessica Walker and husband to be John Hurley. Loving brother, James an his wife  Barbara  Crayne and 4 sisters, Geraldine, her husband; Mattie and her husband Jr Arnold; and Shirley and her husband, Glen Hensley. John R. Cooper

1964 - 2016

John was born November 13, 1964 to  loving parents Gary C. and Kathryn "Kay" Cooper; dear grandson of Mary Paula Yourtee and the Late Victor LaPinta and Layman and Gladys (nee Valle) Cooper. Dear father of Kacie (Nick) Stanley, Courtney (fiance J.P. Mahn) Cooper and Kelly Cooper. Loving grandpa to Riley Rustemeyer. Dear husband of Lisa Cooper for 25 years.  Beloved brother of Dave (Teri) Cooper; dear uncle of Alex (Lauren Arnold), Ashley (James) Cooper, and Amber (Scott) Kinney; and great uncle of Chase, Summer and Dalton Cooper and Brodie Kinney. Our dear nephew and friend to many.

John made everyone that knew him laugh. He had a big smile, a bigger personality and never met a stranger. He graduated from CBC and played on the 1983 State Championship Hockey team. He also played on the St. Louis Junior Blues, and The Danville Dashers, winning the 1984 Walmar Cup.  John owned and operated McLaughlin Funeral Home for nearly 30 years. He liked fishing, hunting and enjoyed spending time with his family and friends at Cooper's Farm. He will be greatly missed.

Richard L. Hewlett

1933 - 2016


Richard was the dear son of the late Louis and Elizabeth Hewlett.  Dear Dad of Louise (Charlie) Maher, Rebecca "Becky" Eischen and Wilma Roland and the late Danalynn Hewlett.  Our dear grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle and friend to many.

Richard was a devoted Christian and prayer warrior for all of his friends and family. He was a loving, giving, kindhearted, and generous person.  He never said an unkind word about anyone.  He loved gardening and most of all he loved his girls!

In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated to ministry of choice.

Services:  Visitation will be held Sunday, February 28, 2016 4pm - 8 pm; Funeral Service will be held Monday, February 29, 2016 at 10 am

Velia D. Kanaday

1923 – 2016


Velia D. Kanaday nee Hedrick, 92, of Bismarck passed away on Monday, 22 February 2016 and was born 17 June 1923 in St. Louis to the late Ike and Goldie A. Hedrick. Mother of the late daughter Patricia Ann (31 January 1947 - 23 March 1948). She was the last surviving of eight siblings: Lawrence H., Lloyd B., Paul J., Vivian Marie Hedrick-Manning, David Lee, Donald W., and Vernon. Wife of the late Seldon P. Kanaday. Survived by step-daughter, Lahoma J. Kanaday Creed; son-in-law, Magnus Creed; her beloved cat, Adinga; sister-in law Lora Kennedy; several nieces and nephews; friends; and the biological mother of Lahoma Kanaday Creed, Minister Brenda E. Straub (Weinhold) to whom she was a good friend.


Velia joined Bismarck United Methodist Church on 24 April 1936 and remained a member for all of her life. After attending beauty school, she worked as a beautician in St. Louis before getting an associate’s degree and working as an accountant for the U.S. Army. She retired from the Army in 1984. She resided in Longwood, Florida from 1984 to 1995 before returning to Bismarck to be near her siblings after the death of her husband in 1994. After her return to Missouri, Velia did accounting for her church and was an Election Poll worker for approximately 15 years. She enjoyed landscaping, gardening, and spending time with her cat and friends.


Memorial service will be held at Bismarck United Methodist Church in the near future.
